Day 1 of the Minnesota AA State Meet

St. Francis’s Amanda Anderson is the Minnesota AA State champion in the discus throw for a second year in a row. Anderson won with a distance of 154′ 07″, a staggering 23 feet ahead of second place. Anderson will compete in shot put tomorrow beginning at 9:00 AM.

Senior Tommy Schwieger also earned hardware today, finishing 6th in triple jump with a distance of 44′ 1.75″. Schwieger will compete in long jump tomorrow beginning at 9:00 AM. Senior Genuine Matthews qualified for finals in the 100m dash and 400m dash; Matthews ran 11:00 in the 100m prelims, finishing 2nd overall, and he ran 48:05 in the 400m prelims, finishing 1st overall. Matthews will compete in the 100m finals at 10:18 AM and the 400m finals at 11:27 AM tomorrow. Sophomore Eli Hylen will compete in high jump beginning at 9:00 AM tomorrow; Hylen is seeded 3rd in high jump at 6′ 7″.
