SFHS Athletics and Activities Purpose

It is the purpose of the Activities Office to enhance student learning and personal development by teaching skills to achieve and provide opportunities to experience success in developing healthy lifestyles in harmony with the school’s commitment to learning. The purpose will address the whole person incorporating the physical and emotional well-being of the individual.

The purpose of the Activities Department is to foster and compliment the overall academic and intellectual growth of St. Francis students along with the experiences that will enable them to interact with other students, test their own personal limits, and gain from the demands and realities of athletic and academic competition and performance based activities.

In attempting to work with students to create a safe, healthy, socially stimulating, educational community, our goals are to enable the students to be involved participants in their teams and activities, and to make available, as appropriate, to all those who participate advice and information regarding the school’s basic principles and expectations.

With respect to expecting, affirming, and maintaining standards of conduct for responsible student behavior within the school community, our goals are to encourage the highest level of performance not only in athletic and activities endeavors but in all phases of school life, particularly because our participants are very visible representatives of St. Francis High School and, in many respects, important role models in our community.

In attempting to do our part in developing a rich variety of opportunities for students to grow intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and morally, our goals are to make available high quality coaching, support services from our office, scheduling, facilities and equipment; and to encourage excellence and meaningful interactions, no matter what the level of participation.  Our office wants to foster effective communication between our coaches/advisors and the Activities Office to enable us to achieve the greatest degree of success for our teams, our athletes, and activity participants thereby bringing pride and positive recognition to our school, the community, and St. Francis alumni.  As we work with our students to exercise self-awareness and make well informed decisions that shape their high school years and their subsequent lives, a goal for our students is to establish appropriate priorities, manage their time effectively and make positive, difficult choices.  In order to maintain overall support for our programs and make sure that our participants have a positive experience, our goal is to structure a realistic budget, and communicate the budget to administration and staff.  Finally, I feel it is our responsibility to foster, for coaches and advisors, an environment that enables continuous learning and professional development, along with the integration of personal and professional commitments.

The collaborative goals described above are essential to ensure that the purpose of the Activities Department blends with the overall mission of St. Francis High School and ISD 15.
