Senior running back John Santiago was selected as one of the 10 finalist for Mr. Football in the State of Minnesota for 2014. John is the first ever Saints player to be a finalist for this award. The Mr. Football banquet was held on Sunday morning November 30th @ the Doubletree Hotel in St. Louis Park.
John rushed for 1859 yards on 165 carries this past season (11.3 yds/carry) and scored 24 touchdowns in leading the Saints to the Section 7AAAAA finals. John was selected as the Offensive Most Valuable Player in the Mississippi 8 Conference.
John attended the banquet with many family, friends, Coach Lindquist, and Activities Director Jeff Fink. Coach Lindquist stated “Perhaps the finest compliment I can provide is that I hope my three children possess the strength of character that John has demonstrated over the past four years both on and off the field”. After the banquet, John and two friends were guests of the Minnesota Vikings at their game vs. the Carolina Panthers. John and the other 9 finalist were announced at halftime of the game. Robbie Grimsley from Hutchinson was selected the 2014 Mr. Football. Congratulations to John, his coaches, and his family for being recognized not only for his outstanding play but for being a role model on and off the field.
