Saint Francis High School
Blaine High School
Today the Fighting Saints traveled to Central Park in Ramsey for a Final Four match up against Blaine.
The Saints got one runner on in the first inning but were unable to push the run through to score. Blaine was able to score first in the bottom of the first inning on a base hit ground ball out to the outfield that was juggled on the ground, but the Saints only gave up that one run in the first inning.
The second inning remained scoreless for both teams, although both teams put runners on base in in the top and bottom of the inning.
The Saints were held scoreless again in the top of the third inning and in the bottom of that inning Blaine’s center fielder, crushed a home run to put the Bengals up 2-0.
Again, both teams were held scoreless in the fourth inning. But finally in the top of the fifth inning the Saints pushed a run through from a lead-off single for Ella Leipzig, followed by a sacrifice bunt from Kylie Bergman, and then a hard hit infield ground out from Hailey Heckenlaible scored Leipzig for the Saints first and only run of the contest.
The Bengals added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to go up 4-1, but were able to push 5 more runs through in the sixth inning off of three errors and a couple blupper hits in front of the outfielders.
The Saints were led tonight offensively by Kiley Murschel, who went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch. As well as three Saints, Emily Sarell, Brenna McMahon, and Ella Leipzig all went 1 for 3 tonight. The Saints were led on the mound by senior, Alex Marron, who pitch an amazing final game giving up only 4 earned runs of the 9 scored in the contest.
The coaching staff would like to wish all the best to the class of 2017 and our four amazing senior leaders/captains from this year: Sydney Boelter, Emma Lero, Alex Marron, and Ally Mathwig-thanks for all your years into our high school softball program.
