Girls Junior Varsity Gymnastics, Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Saints Gymnastics Keeps up the Momentum with a Win Against the Wildcats

The Saints hosted the Chisago Lakes Wildcats on Tuesday in their first home meet of the season.  Coming off of a win last week against Rogers, the Saints were hopeful to keep the early season momentum going and didn’t disappoint.  The Varsity Saints played to a packed gym and chalked up the win against the Wildcats with a final team score of 137.225 for the Saints vs. 130.0 for Wildcats.  Senior Felicia Bartell had a strong night, claiming the 1st place spot on all four rotations as well as All-Around with a score of 36.575.  Saints Junior Summer Helland took the 3rd place spot All-Around with a score of 33.875 and Allie Frank took 4th with a 33.475.   Nice to see so many fans in the stands.

In individual Varsity action, Felicia Bartell topped everyone with 1st place finishes on all rotations.  Summer Helland took 2nd place on Vault and Floor and 5th on Bars.  Allie Frank took 3rd on Beam and Floor.  Riley Lawin took 4th on Vault and Lauryn Perry placed 4th on Bars.

For the JV Saints, it was a very close meet but they fell to Chisago Lakes with a final team score of 112.25 for St Francis vs. 113.9 for the Wildcats.  This team has come a long way from the start of last season when most of them joined as seventh graders.  Saints Amelia Holm had a good night taking 2nd place All-Around with a score of 27.70.   She also placed 5th on Bars in Beam.  Savanna Lanz took 3rd place All-Around with a score of 27.250 and 3rd on Floor.

In combination (those that compete BOTH JV & Varsity) action, Lia Mehregan tied for 2nd place with an All-Around score of 29.750.  She also took 1st on JV Beam and JV Bars and 3rd on JV Vault.  Riley Lawin took 4th place All-Around with a score of 29.475 and took 2nd on JV Beam and 3rd in JV Bars.  And Emma Oman took 5th with an All-Around score of 28.2.

Both the Varsity and JV teams appear to be off to strong starts to the season.  Because of the Saints small team size, the key to their success will be keeping the girls off the injured list.  They can’t afford to lose any gymnasts.

Next week, the Saints will be in Princeton as they take on the Tigers on Thursday December 20, 2018 at 6:30 pm.  It will also be “ugly” holiday sweater meet which is always a fun time and great photo opportunity.  Parents and fans can also wear their fun holiday gear as well!  Hope to see a great turnout next week and as always Go Saints!!!!
