Girls Junior Varsity Gymnastics, Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Fighting Injuries – Saints Fall to Monticello Magic

They knew going into the meet on Thursday that it would be a challenge considering they were down one of their most senior and skilled gymnasts.  Junior and Co-Captain Summer Helland sprained her ankle over break and is out of the competition until it heals.  To make matters worse, sophomore and Co-Captain Allie Frank is also dealing with a stress injury of her own and could only compete two events.  The Saints dug into their JV team for talent and despite the injuries achieved a respectable 134.85.  But that just wasn’t enough to match the Magic who had a strong meet and came in with a 142.95 for the night.

Despite all the challenges the Saint’s still claimed three of the top five varsity all-around spots with Felicia Bartell taking 1st with a 37.425, Lauryn Perry taking 4th with a 33.525, and Lia Mehregan rounding out 5th with a 31.275.  In individual varsity results, Felicia Bartell took 1st on vault and bars, 2nd on beam and 3rd on floor.  Allie Frank took 4th on beam.

The JV team also had a solid night but unfortunately fell to the Magic with a score of 105.8 for the Saints vs. 135.95 for Monticello.  Saints Savanna Lanz placed 5th on beam.

The varsity Saints next meet will be at the Winter Wonderland Invite in River Falls, WI this weekend Saturday January 12, 2019 at the River Falls High School at 11 am.  Their next home meet will be next Tuesday January 15, 2019 against the Buffalo Bison.  This will also be Teacher Appreciation Night so don’t miss it.  Come out and cheer on your Fighting Saints Gymnastics Team.  Go Saints!
