The Saints took on their friendly rival to the North, the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets, in an away meet last night in Cambridge. They fought hard, but fell to the Bluejackets with a final team score of 135.625 for the Saints to 143.4 – a season high for C-I. With one of our top gymnasts and co-captain, Summer Helland, still out with an ankle sprain and our other veteran co-captain Allie Frank only competing two events, they knew it would be a challenging meet. For a small team like this, having an injury at a varsity level means pulling talent up from JV and that’s just what they did. Last night, we saw some strong performances from two girls relatively new to Varsity level competition… Savanna Lanz and Amelia Holm.
Of course, the Saints senior Felicia Bartell did not disappoint and had a great night scoring a season high 9.475 on vault.
In individual Varsity results, Felicia Bartell claimed the second-place spot all-around with a 37.15 along with 1st on vault, 2nd on floor, and 3rd on bars and beam. Lauryn Perry took 5th all-around with a 33.725. Allie Frank took 4th on beam.
The JV team had a solid night, but it was not enough to take the win and fell to the Bluejackets, with a team score of 107.7 vs. 129.3 for C-I. Riley Lawin took the 4th place on JV floor.
In combo all-around results, Riley Lawin took 3rd with a 29.975, Emma Oman took 4th with a 28.25 and Savanna Lanz took 5th with a 28.25.
The Saints just wrapped up a very busy week including two meets and an invite, but they get very little time for rest. Next week, they host a home meet against the North Branch Vikings and then will be competing in the Cambridge-Isanti Invite next Saturday. Next week’s home meet against the Vikings will also be Parents Appreciation Night and will be held on Thursday January 24th, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the St Francis Middle School gym. We only have a couple of home meets left so don’t miss the chance to come out, support and cheer on our Fighting Saints gymnasts. Go Saints!
