Girls Junior Varsity Gymnastics, Girls Varsity Gymnastics · Healing from Injuries, Saints Make a Big Comeback and Take the Win Against North Branch

After three meets dogged by injuries, the Saints are finally on the road to recovery.  On Thursday, they took on the North Branch Viking and won big with a final team score of 137.625 for the Saints vs. 132.375 for the Vikings.  That was their second highest score of the season and a reason to celebrate.  They were helped by the return of veteran and co-captain Summer Helland, who has been out with a sprained ankle.   Summer was able compete on uneven bars and beam despite the fact that she is still healing that ankle.  Our other co-captain Allie Frank was also able to fight back her injuries and compete bars, floor and beam.  As usual, Felicia Bartell had a good night, taking 1st all-around with a score of 36.225 followed by a strong performance by Lauryn Perry who took 2nd with a 34.15.

In individual varsity results, Felicia Bartell took 1st place on vault, bars, and floor and 3rd place on beam.  Lauryn Perry took 2nd on bars, 4th on beam, and 5th on vault and floor.  Allie Frank took 2nd on beam, and 3rd on floor and bars.  Riley Lawin took 3rd on vault and Summer Helland took 5th on beam.

The JV team also had a great night and took the win with a team score 114.2 vs. 113.25 for the Vikings.  This is the highest score the JV team has seen in a couple of years and really demonstrates how far this young team of mostly 7th and 8th grade girls has come.   Savanna Lanz took 1st place for JV all-around with a 27.65 and Gracie Huff took 2nd with a 24.6.  Savanna scored 4th on vault and Amelia scored 2nd on bars (tie) and 5th on floor.

In individual combo results (those competing a mix of varsity and JV), Lia Mehregan took 2nd place all-around with a 30.975 and also took 1st on JV beam.  Riley Lawin took 3rd all-around with a 30.175 and also a 2nd place on JV floor and beam (tie) and 3rd on JV bars (tie).  Emma Oman took 5th all-around with a 29.5 and a 1st on JV vault (tie) and bars.

This was also parent appreciation night and the girls took this chance to thank their parents, grand-parents and family members for all they have done to support and encourage them.  Our parents are the best!  Thank you for all you do!

The Saints next meet is the Cambridge-Isanti Invite which will start at 12 pm this Saturday January 26, 2019 at C-I high school.  The team would love to see a great turnout for St Francis so come out and cheer on our Fighting Saints!  Go Saints!
