Just as the Saints were coming back to full strength after injuries that dogged the team earlier in the season, tragedy strikes again. It was two years ago on another senior night that then senior Andi Frank injured herself on floor and this year it was their only senior Felicia Bartell’s turn. Felicia was looking strong on her beam routine up until she missed her second back handspring and took a hard fall on the floor. Despite a painful injury to her hand she got back up on the beam and finished her routine, but you could tell she was in pain. Afterwards, it was obvious this injury will likely put her out for the rest of the season, probably dashing her dreams for her final varsity sections and possible state appearance. Despite this, the team gathered around Felicia after the meet and gave her the best senior send-off they could, sharing gifts, many memories, some laughs and a few tears. Felicia is an amazing gymnast and has been an inspiration, a mentor, and a valuable member of this team for three years and will be missed. Good luck to her in all her future endeavors.
With the loss of Felicia on beam and floor, the varsity team still finished with a score of 136.75 but it was not enough to defeat the STMA Knights who ended up with a score of 138.975. All around, Summer Helland took 2nd place with a score of 35.1 and Allie Frank took 3rd with 34.7. Lauryn Perry took 5th with a 32.95.
In individual varsity results, Felicia Bartell took 1st on vault and bars. Summer Helland took 1st on floor and 3rd on beam and bars. Allie Frank took 1st on beam, 3rd on floor and 5th on bars. Lauryn Perry took 5th on beam.
The JV team came in with a score of 115.85, the second highest score of their season, but lost to STMA who had a final score of 126.7. In all-around, Amelia Holm took 2nd place with a score of 29.75. Savanna Lanz took 4th with a 26.8. And, Gracie Huff came in 5th with a 24.9.
In individual JV results, Emma Oman took 2nd on vault. Lia Mehregan took 3rd on vault and beam. Amelia Holm took 4th on beam. And, Riley Lawin took 5th on floor.
In combination all-around (those competing both varsity and JV) Lia Mehregan took 1st with a score of 31.250. Riley Lawin took 3rd with a 30.15. And, Emma Oman was 4th with a 29.5.
While this meet wraps up the 2018-2019 regular conference meet season, there is still a JV conference meet this Friday and a varsity sections meet next Friday. The JV conference is Friday 2/8 at St Francis High School at 6 pm. The Varsity sections meet will be at the Forest Lake High School at 5 pm on Friday 2/15.
