Last night, the Fighting Saints hosted the Big Lake Hornets in their second M8C home meet of the season. Going into this meet, the Saints knew they had their work cut out for them as the Hornets have been near or at the top of the Section A team list based on team all-around scores for the past few weeks. And, although the lady Saints put up a valiant fight, they ended up falling to the Hornets with a team score of 134.925 (Saints) to 146.125 (Hornets). Despite the loss, the Saints should be pretty happy with that score as it was the highest of their season so far and is keeping the positive momentum going. Saint’s senior Summer Helland had a solid night placing 4th all-around with a 35.65. Allie Frank had a good night too coming in 5th with a 34.025.
Looking at the individual Varsity event scores many of the top spots were dominated by Big Lake. For the Saints, Summer took 4th on Bars and Vault and 5th on Beam. Allie took 3rd on Vault and 5th on Floor.
The JV team fell to the Hornets with a team score of 122.15 (Saints) to 131.6 (Hornets). Despite losing, the Saints had much to celebrate with that score. That is the highest JV team score in at least 3 to 4 seasons and shows the strength and potential in this very young JV team. Saint’s Amelia Holm took 4th place all-around with a score of 30.85. And, Savanna Lanz took 5th with a 30.35.
In individual JV results, Amelia took 2nd on Vault and 4th on Floor. Emma Oman took 3rd on Vault and 5th on Beam. Lia Mehregan took 4th on Vault and Savanna Lanz took 5th on Vault and Floor.
In combination all-around, Lia Mehregan took 2nd place with a score of 31.675. Emma Oman came in 3rdwith a 31.35. Kayla Reid took 4th with a 30.1. and Riley Lawin took 5th with a 29.3.
Their next meet will be the Winter Wonderland Invite hosted by River Falls Gymnastics (weather permitting). This Varsity only meet is this Saturday January 18th at 11 AM at the River Falls, Wisconsin High School. The other teams included in this invite are: Ashland, Centennial, Chisago Lakes, Grantsburg, Hudson, Menomonie, Onalaska, Rice Lake, River Falls, and Washburn. One of the highlights of this meet is a winter themed team costume competition at march-in which is always fun to watch. If you are looking for something fun to do this Saturday, make sure to come on out and cheer on the team. Go Saints!!!
